THEN....Snohomish was founded in 1859 by E.C. Ferguson, who arrived looking to settle on the Military Road planned to connect between Fort Stelacoom and Fort Bellingham. Although the road was never completed, the City of Snohomish Became a busy logging, milling and farming community. Snohomish was the original county seat until it was moved to Everett in 1897.Snohomish is a great place to live! Our community has made every effort to insure the preservation of our historical beginnings while creating an wonderfully livable city.
NOW...The current population within our City Limits is 9,600. Our School District serves an area of 165 sq. miles and a general population of 40,000. The current enrollment is 8,660 students. Students attend 9 elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, and two alternative schools. Snohomish has 11 parks, offering everything from boat launch facilities on the Snohomish River, tennis courts, fishing docks, and loads of play equipment. The Centennial Trail head is located at the intersection of Pine and Maple Avenues. Shopping in Snohomish can mean finding a treasure in one of our specialty shops or browsing the wares of over 450 antique dealers, plus all your daily needs are conveniently met by shopping at several multi-business centers. The newest Shopping area in Snohomish is on Bickford Avenue. The Snohomish Station is home to Fred Meyers, Home Depot, Khol's and a number of eateries and small businesses.
